Cooling and heating requirements in coatings production

Paint production involves a variety of cooling and heat requirements, as follows:

Cooling requirements

  1. Reactor cooling
  • Paint resin synthesis requires control of reaction temperature to avoid overheating that affects quality.
  • Cooling medium: cold water or chilled water (15~25°C).
  1. Emulsification and dispersion cooling
  • In the emulsification and dispersion process, stirring will generate a lot of heat, which requires cooling and temperature control.
  • Cooling method: jacket cooling or heat exchanger.
  1. Tank cooling
  • Paint storage needs to maintain a stable temperature to prevent excessive temperature from causing paint deterioration.
  • Cooling requirements: 15~20°C.

Heat requirements

  1. Resin synthesis heating
  • The resin reactor needs to be heated at high temperature (80~250°C) to start the polymerization reaction.
  • Heat source: thermal oil, steam or high-temperature heat pump.
  1. Solvent distillation
  • Recovering organic solvents in paint production requires heating and distillation (60~120°C).
  • Heat source: heat pump or steam.
  1. Hot water for cleaning
  • High-temperature hot water (60~90°C) is required for cleaning production equipment (such as reactors and dispersers).
  • Heat source: heat pump or electric heater.
  1. Drying and heating
  • Some processes (such as after adding powder) require drying or dehumidification (40~100°C).
  • Heat source: hot air system or heat pump.

Optimization suggestions

  1. Cooling and heat integration
  • Use high-temperature heat pumps to recover waste heat (such as condenser waste heat) in production for heating.
  1. Precise temperature control
  • Configure heat pumps and chillers to improve energy efficiency and meet the needs of different processes.
  1. Energy saving and emission reduction
  • Use heat pumps to replace traditional boilers and cooling towers to save energy and reduce carbon emissions.
